Local family festivals in May 2019

THE  Festival season is almost here but you don’t need to break the bank on family festival tickets. Just check these great events and days out in Oldham that won’t cost the earth.

Comic Con 3: Saturday May 11, 10am–4pm, free.

IF you’re really game for a laugh come meet some great comic guests who have drawn, written and published your favourite superheroes — and discover exciting new comics and artwork. 

Whether you are a seasoned con-goer or a first timer, everyone is welcome. And  don’t forget you can dress up and geek out.

There will be more than 30 guest artists and writers including, Amy Chu – writer on Red Sonja, Poison Ivy and Wonder Woman – and Keith Williams, who started as a background artist at Marvel and has worked on many greats since, including Spider-Man.

A galaxy of stalls will be  selling comics and superhero merchandise, plus free workshops, panels and talks throughout the day.

Family festivals in Oldham

Failsworth  57th Carnival, Saturday, May 18, 9am–7pm and Sunday, May 19, 11am–6pm (see website for prices)

Enjoy all the fun of the fair at this year’s carnival. Join in the popular, traditional parade, watch live dance performances, browse the stalls and fill up on your favourite food.

MooseFest 2019 : Saturday, May 25, 11am–4pm (see website for prices)

A  fun dog show with canine games, talks and stalls. There will also be plenty for humans to enjoy too including music, a tombola, craft stalls, food and drink. The event is to raise funds for Moose’s Sighthound Trust.

The Whit Friday Brass Band Contests : Friday 14 June 14, 4–11pm, free.

Spend the day in the vibrant  Saddleworth villages and listen to superb  brass at the ‘greatest free show on Earth’. Brass bands will be performing across 20 different open air contests throughout the day.

The music event with a difference is back for a second year. Featuring a Frankie Valli Tribute, Tom Hingley from Inspiral Carpets, and  a host of well-known local bands to raise money for local charitable causes.

This annual show returns with a range of exciting activities for the whole family to enjoy, including fairground rides, inflatables, a music showcase and food

The Oldham Music Centre Summer Festival : Saturday July 6, 10.30am–7pm, free.

All of the Oldham Music Centre’s amazing ensembles and choirs will be performing in a free, family friendly event in Parliament Square, The Lyceum and Oldham Library.
